Once Lost, Now Found: How Debora Became a "Burning Arrow"

Debora at the Steiger Missions School.

“Through Steiger, I truly found my calling. Now I have a heart for the lost, and it is such a blessing. God always provides and takes care of us, and it brings peace to know that this is true. It’s His promise, and I’ve learned it through this mission.” — Debora, Steiger missionary from Serbia.

Debora grew up in a Christian home. Her parents were missionaries, and from a young age she witnessed lives being transformed by the Gospel. Yet for years, her faith felt heavy. God seemed distant, defined more by rules than relationship. She knew about Him, but she didn’t yet know His love.

Everything began to change in 2022, when Debora visited Steiger International Center in Krögis for the first time—an unexpected trip made possible after someone from a Steiger worship gathering felt led by God to sponsor her journey. She was just 14 years old, walking through one of the hardest seasons of her life—struggling deeply, even considering taking her own life, and slowly drifting away from God. But what she encountered there surprised her. Instead of pressure or performance, she found family. She saw people serving Jesus with joy, freedom, and deep love for one another.

Through Steiger, Debora discovered that Jesus is not religion, but relationship. Church was no longer tradition, but family. That year, God called her to missions through a dream, planting a seed that would continue to grow.

Debora shares Jesus in outreaches.

From that point on, a fire was sparked in Debora, leading her to keep stepping forward in faith. She visited the Steiger Missions School whenever she could, served with No Longer Music, helped at conferences, and gave herself fully while continuing her studies. In 2024, she attended Steiger Missions School, where her passion for sharing the Gospel and reaching the lost deepened even more.

Wanting to stay connected and continue growing, Debora joined Steiger Year One, a year of training and internships for those committing to the mission, and stepped into opportunities across Europe—serving at Revive in Poland and Finland.

In December, Debora joined a pioneering Steiger trip to Saudi Arabia with 12 Burning Arrows from around the world, breaking new ground for the Gospel. That trip marked her deeply. Being surrounded by people who had never heard the name of Jesus, and praying with them for the first time reminded her that the harvest is ready. “I truly saw the need to step out of your comfort zone, because someone’s eternity can depend on you pushing through fear and telling the truth.”

Debora is one of the Burning Arrows God is raising up—young leaders who have encountered Jesus personally and now carry His love boldly into the world. Once lost herself, she now lives to tell others about the hope she’s found.

“This mission is a true family. I’ve learned so much through them, and I’ve seen that we are created for God’s good works. I’m honored to be used by the Creator to reach His children, because I was once lost until someone told me about Jesus.”
