“I was living like the prodigal son, then Jesus found me.”

Sergio is a 28-year-old from Colombia. He grew up in a Christian family, but by age fifteen, he walked away from the church. For years, he searched for meaning in everything the world offered, and ended up empty, broken, and convinced he had gone too far.
But on Halloween night in 2021, during one of the darkest moments of his life, God intervened.
Drunk and roaming the streets, Sergio stumbled upon our Steiger team sharing the message of Jesus in the middle of the night through art, conversation, and bold compassion. One of the missionaries approached him and spoke to him about Jesus directly, sincerely, and without judgment. It was the first spark of hope Sergio had felt in years.
They invited him to a Bible study for the non-religious, and Sergio accepted. That step changed everything. Through that community, he reconciled with God, rediscovered the Bible, and found friends who walked with him, listened to him, and showed him the love of Jesus in a genuine, relational way.
In 2022, Sergio was baptized. He left behind the addictions and destructive patterns that once controlled his life. God healed deep wounds and welcomed him home with the same grace offered to the prodigal son.
Then in 2024, after attending the Steiger Missions School, Sergio understood his calling: he was meant to reach young people who are lost like he once was.
By February 2025, he became a full-time missionary with the Steiger City Team in Colombia, pouring his life into sharing Jesus with those who may never step foot into a church.
“There is hope for those who, like me, were lost and far from Jesus — and that hope is what inspires me to take His Gospel to the whole world,” shared Sergio.
Young people around the world are stepping out in bold obedience as “burning arrows” to reach their generation. Like Sergio, those who experience this transformation go on to become the next wave of burning arrows, continuing to expand the impact as disciples who make disciples!
