“God Used a Metal Show to Reach Me”: Alisson’s Story

Alisson began her journey with a distorted view of God and the church—marked by judgment, legalism, and a constant sense of not belonging. “To me, being a Christian meant always having a finger pointed at me, telling me everything I wasn’t allowed to do,” she explained.

During her teenage years, Alisson walked away from the institutional faith she’d known. Her love for alternative music, her style, and her deep questions didn’t seem to fit in a space where being a Christian meant conforming to a rigid set of rules.

But everything started to shift in 2021. At an event, she was drawn in by a metal band’s performance. Their lyrics unexpectedly spoke to her heart. Something deeper was happening. Over time, she got to know one of the band members and his wife—and through many honest conversations, something even more powerful was revealed: a version of Christianity that actually made sense. A Jesus who didn’t push her away but drew her in.

That couple was Lucas, a Steiger missionary, and his wife, Michelle, part of the Steiger Brazil team.

“When Lucas told me he believed in God and made this kind of music… my mind was blown,” shared Alisson.

They listened. They cared. They opened their home. And with their lives, they showed her the love of Christ.

Over 2024, Alisson’s relationship with Jesus deepened. And during a show by The Unrest—a Steiger band on tour in Brazil—everything turned upside down.

“Hearing the message of Jesus at that show was like going from death to life. I’m absolutely sure that God knew exactly how to reach me—showing me that my style and interests were actually His creation. I’d never felt so alive at a concert. That night, the message was loud and clear. I really felt the Holy Spirit.”

Today, Alisson is walking closely with Jesus. She speaks with deep gratitude for the friends who disciple her—real people who walk alongside her, speak the truth in love, and help her discover God’s purpose for her life. “For me, it’s not even ‘discipleship’—I only learned that word recently. It’s just friends showing me the right path. That’s what makes sense to me.”

Alisson now lives in the Steiger Brazil team’s community house in São Paulo. She’s been baptized, is connected to a local church, and is actively involved in the mission. And what’s burning in her heart is clear: “I want to shout to the whole world how surreal and life-giving Christ's love is.”

Alisson’s story is just one of many. Young people like her are finding Jesus outside of a rule-based religion—in safe, authentic spaces where the message of the Gospel is communicated in a real, relational, and relevant way.
