From despair to hope: Alena’s story
Earlier this year, the Steiger Eurasia team organized a small music event on Valentine’s Day. Before the event, Steiger missionary Pasha wondered if it was even worth doing, but one thought kept stirring in his heart: “What if there’s someone who really needs to know about God’s love?”
That night, Alena was that person. After the event, she came up and said, “Everything you shared really touched me. I want to come to your Bible study for the non-religious.”
From then on, she started coming to their book club and meeting with them personally. Alena was in a dark season struggling with depression, emptiness, anxiety, even suicidal thoughts. But after their times together, she would say, “It seems there is meaning to living on this earth. There is this light of God that gives hope.”
In July, she came to church for the very first time for a baptism service. She cried the whole time because she felt God’s presence so deeply. She told the team she was amazed that in this community of people—once strangers—she felt like she had finally found a family.
That day, Alena gave her life to Jesus. Her words were simple but powerful: “I know one thing for sure: without God there is no point in this life. If I live, I want to live for Him.”
This is just the beginning of her journey, and we’re filled with faith for all that God will do in and through her life.
