International Newsletter April 2022

“He hadn't talked to his sister in five years because he felt that she didn't deserve his forgiveness.”

Mary Savio was one of the young people who participated in Steiger Brazil’s recent Intensive Training. When she encountered this young man during the creative outreach, she felt the door open for the Holy Spirit. “I told him that none of us deserves forgiveness. But God loved us so much he sent Jesus to the earth to take all the evil in this world and in our lives, so that we can receive His forgiveness.” Shocked, the young man allowed Mary to pray for him.

Steiger Brazil used street art, music, and dance to bring the hope of Jesus to Paulista Avenue

Powerful conversations took place that day up and down Paulista Avenue, one of the most important streets in São Paulo.

Many of those in the training had never used their art to provoke gospel conversations before, but these young students from all over Brazil who’d just spent an intense week of seeking God and learning to share Jesus in bold and creative ways, were ready. The Holy Spirit was at work in all of it. They proclaimed the Gospel to 200 people and prayed with 130 of them. By the end of the day, seven people had made decisions to follow Christ.

Brazilian artists were inspired to boldly proclaim Jesus through their art

"Some of my own plans were destroyed, others were confirmed, and many new purposes were born in my heart,” shared Jhonata. A tattoo artist, he took part in the Intensive Training and by the end of the week, there was no doubt that God had brought him there for a reason. Not only was he able to use his artistry in creative evangelism on the streets of São Paulo, but he left emboldened to share the truth and love of Christ through every aspect of his life.

We have seven Steiger City Teams in various stages of development across Brazil. With the lifting of many Covid restrictions in the region, we are seeing rapid growth and many young people searching for truth and hope. Join us in praying that God would guide our teams in their efforts to reach those who desperately need Him in Brazil.

UPDATE FROM UKRAINE

As of the writing of this newsletter, our teams in Ukraine have received 50 tons of essential items (food, clothing, medicines, etc) and courageously distributed 40 tons of them to people in active conflict areas. Our team of about 70 volunteers and Steiger missionaries on the ground in Ukraine are continuing to use the buses we purchased to get these supplies into the hands of the most needy and to evacuate people from dangerous areas.

Our teams are mostly evacuating children, the disabled, and the elderly

We have team members on both sides of the Ukraine / Poland border who are coming alongside refugees, offering physical assistance, prayer, and sharing the Gospel whenever possible. In addition to helping refugees find housing via a network of churches, we’ve received 45 Ukrainian Steiger missionaries, volunteers, and their families at our International Center in Germany.

Almost all of the women staying with us at the IC had to leave their husbands behind in Ukraine due to draft restrictions

Please continue to pray for our displaced Steiger family, for those still in Ukraine, and for our missionaries in Russia and Belarus. Thank you for continuing to stand with them all during this difficult time.

You can still give directly to Steiger’s Ukraine Relief Fund here. Please also commit to praying one hour each day in our Steiger 24/7 Ukraine Prayer Chain over Zoom!
