Lead
singer, David comments, "I never got
into this for the music. A lot of bands want
to be bands for God; with us it was the opposite.
We were trying to reach people, and He told
us to start a band. That's why we began, and
it's been unbelievable because we made a decision
from the beginning that we were going to be
very clear about Who we believe in and What
we stood for"
Those first songs found audiences on the streets
and in the underground punk clubs of Amsterdam.
People kept coming back, if not for the bands
musical talent, for their energy and message.
Since
those humble beginnings as gutter-punk evangelists,
NLM has been regarded in the Christian underground
as true punk pioneers. Much of that respect
has come from their ability to grow and adapt
while continuing to proclaim their uncompromising
message of faith and hope.
With a repertoire of theatrics like cutting
through a wall with a chain saw and hanging
their bass player upside down by his feet,
one always wonders what is next for No
Longer Music.
In NLM's latest creation music and drama are
used to tell a story of the rise and fall
of man as video images inundate you with the
meaning behind the music. The intense action
and heartfelt passion grip viewers as a variety
of musical styles keep every musical taste
sated. The opera graphically depicts man's
desperate need for Jesus and concludes with
a crucifixion and resurrection scene that
shows the reality and power of the cross.
The concert usually concludes with a hard-hitting
gospel message and opportunity to come forward
to pray with the team.
After their World Tours, Steiger missionaries
(from NLM) do follow-up work throughout the
world, working alongside churches and ministries
to disciple new believers, set up bible studies
and further outreaches in many areas.
Steiger's ministries have multiplied to include
facilitating church planting in Serbia, Poland,
Holland and Brazil as well as annual Jesus
Camps (evangelistic bible camps) in Europe
and Asia and evangelistic tours for a number
of new ministry bands.
Additionally, David Pierce is devoting time
to speak in the United States, Europe, Asia
and Australasia about world evangelism and
the challenge of reaching the Global Youth
Culture.
NLM's
productions target what David calls the "Global
youth Culture". This refers to the young
people that can be found in every major urban
area in the world who are part of the MTV
Culture. These young people share the same
music, symbols, goals and problems. Problems
such as loneliness, suicide and drug abuse
and most importantly, NLM points to Jesus
as the only answer in a multimedia format
they can understand and respond to, as hundreds
have all over the world.
