FAQ

"Steiger International is dedicated to going to secular young people, leading them into a relationship with Jesus Christ, and helping them fulfill Gods calling for their lives."

Secularized global youth make up the largest un-reached people group in the world, held together by common values, symbols, and legends. These are formed by the shallow entertainment industry, pop culture, and economic strategies that prey on a whole generation. This, combined with a break down in family structure and values, sets the stage for anger, despair, hopelessness, and apathy.

We share God's broken heart for these young people.

History

Steiger means “pier” in Dutch.  Our name comes from the address of the barge behind Central Station in Amsterdam, Holland – “Steiger 14” – where Steiger International first began. In the 1980’s, David and Jodi Pierce started a Bible study there for the un-churched and the punks; in time, this effort resulted in the establishment of a church in the inner city. It was during this time that David Pierce formed the band No Longer Music as a tool for communicating Jesus to the secular music scene. From Amsterdam, they began organizing evangelistic tours throughout Western and Eastern Europe, including Russia and Mongolia.

No Longer Music has been a very effective tool and has allowed us to bring Jesus to places where conventional missionary teams cannot go, including closed Islamic countries, terrorist clubs, squatter villages, anarchy festivals, brothels, junkie joints, punk & goth music festivals, Satanist clubs and New Age gatherings.  God is using this evangelistic tool to bring thousands of young people to Christ in some of the darkest clubs in Europe, Asia, and North and South America.

Today, Steiger has established bases or ministry teams in the US, New Zealand, UK, Poland, Brazil and Germany. New bases are being considered in Europe, Singapore and the Middle East . Our call is to bring the love of Jesus to secular youth by being actively involved in today's culture in the same way that Jesus would be. Because music and art have become the language of the global youth culture, much of Steiger’s work uses these methods to communicate the Gospel.

Jesus was a friend to people.  Likewise, we do not want to solely proclaim who He is; we want to demonstrate His love by being actively involved in people's lives.  For this reason, we are extremely concerned that people who respond to Jesus receive long-term care and discipleship.  We are very involved in following up with these people ourselves, and whenever possible, we work together with local churches to provide them with further support.  If necessary, we begin new churches, because we are so aware of the need for a community in which new believers they can continue to grow.

Steiger International’s ministries have planted churches in Siberia, Poland, Germany, Holland and the USA.  Steiger has founded annual Jesus Camps (Bible camps) in Europe and Brazil, evangelistic tours for a number of new ministry bands and Discipleship Training Schools.  Additionally, Steiger supplies speakers to churches around the world, speaking about world evangelism and the challenge of reaching the global youth culture.
