September 2007

Dear Friends,

We were in a heavy Muslim area. The beach was littered with broken glass, garbage and a dead rat. In fact, garbage was piled everywhere even on the main walking street. We felt a really dark heavy spirit as we made preparations to do our concert on the main road. After helping to unload the gear I went for a walk to invite people to the concert. Everyone I talked to was very open, polite and friendly.  I had given out all the fliers and so I started to walk back to where the band was setting up and I saw a tough looking young guy somewhere in his twenties walking towards me. I said "hello" and pointed to where we were setting up and invited him to come to our concert. "You will really like it." I said.

As I was saying this he punched me hard in the chest and shoved me up against a wall.  I tried to walk away but he wouldn´t let me go and he pulled out a long knife.  I put out my hands and said "sorry" and tried to explain that I was only inviting him to our concert. He repeated what I said and shouted "Sorry! Sorry! and he pulled back his hand to strike me with the knife. Suddenly a guy down the street shouted something to him and he stopped and walked away. I felt like God told me to walk very slowly back to the band. So very slowly and casually I walked back.
Text Box:
This happened just before our concert and I didn´t want to bring fear into the band so I didn´t tell the band what happened.

When we started our concert the wind blew like a hurricane and we had to fight the whole time to hold the curtains down because they would catch the dirty blowing wind like a sail on a boat. Hundreds of people crowded around and watched, many sitting on the street. I felt a great freedom and joy when I preached and I spoke plainly and boldly about Jesus.

People gathering to learn more about
Jesus after a concert

A mother with a beautiful little baby dressed in white was sitting in the middle of the crowd near where I was speaking. I invited her to come to the stage with the baby and she stood by me holding the little girl while I explained how God loves us just like this mother loves her little girl. Because of His great love for us, He sent his son Jesus so we could now have a relationship with Him again. I invited those who wanted to know more about Jesus to go to Nik who was standing some distance away from us holding a burning torch. While he stood on a broken down wall near the sea several hundred people rushed to where he was. I walked to where Nik was standing and I said to the crowd "I want you to meet my son Aaron. He will tell you more."  So Aaron explained in more detail how you can know Jesus and how He died for our sins.  When Aaron finished I invited people to pray with us. And in this heavy Muslim town people prayed out loud and publicly invited Jesus to come into their lives while others mocked or tried to stop the many conversations that happened afterwards.

Text Box: I prayed with three young men and their faces were literally glowing because God´s presence was so strongly upon them. "Thank you, thank you", they repeated and they gave us their details so they could take part in a bible correspondence course. Everyone in the band spent the next several hours in conversations like this with people gathered all around them.

Showing the crucifixion of Jesus

At the same time we were threatened. One guy told Justin that he would "help him go to heaven" if he would come with him. Justin just smiled and lost the guy in the crowd. A missionary that has been working for many years in this area said that the gospel has probably not been preached like this for more than a thousand years and she has NEVER seen anything like this before. She said it was a historic event, a huge miracle. 400 people prayed the sinners prayer!!!

So this is one example of what we have been experiencing. I have much much more to tell you. So much challenge, so much to pray about. Thank you for your prayers. We are overwhelmed and in awe of Jesus.

For the lost,
