April 2008

Kapiti Coast , New Zealand

Dear Friends,

It was two days before Easter, on Good Friday, and Greg (a New Zealand student in our Steiger Missions & Leadership school) hung on a cross on a lamp post.  He was on a busy road near the beach on the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand.  He wanted to show, in a dramatic way, how Jesus died on the cross.

Nobody just drove by. Everyone slowed down in their cars and reacted in some way.  Some gave him the finger and others gave him the thumbs up sign.  One guy slowed down in his car and told Greg that he was from Dubai and that he was going to call his Arab friends and that they would come back and "get him".

Suddenly a lady started screaming at him from her porch across the street. "Go back to where you come from or I will call the police." A couple of minutes later a big guy with a dragon tattoo on his back came out of the house where the woman was screaming. He crossed over the street and walked towards Greg with a big hunting knife strapped to his side. When Greg saw him coming with the knife, he stepped off the cross just before the guy drew his knife and slashed the ropes that held the cross to the lamp post. After he cut the ropes he picked up the cross and threw it over Greg’s head.

"I'm asking you nicely to move on," he said as he slowly put the knife back in his belt.  Greg said he didn't mean to offend him and he picked up the cross and walked away.

Even on Good Friday in New Zealand you enter into a war if you dare to lift up the cross.

But Jesus is powerful and every week the students are seeing God move on the streets.  For example, last week 10 skater kids prayed to receive Jesus at a skate ramp.  So we have started a bible study group for them to come to that meets every Tuesday night.

As I write this we are into the 3rd week of the Radical Missions and Leadership Training School. We have students attending from Brazil, USA, Poland, Germany, New Zealand and Switzerland.  Pray that God continues to move powerfully in the lives of the students.

Also pray for our preparations for our upcoming evangelistic tours later this year in Poland, Lebanon, Turkey, Croatia, Finland, Iceland and the USA.  God has provided sponsors for Turkey but we STILL need sponsors for our concerts in Lebanon (US$34,200), Croatia (US$24,000), Poland (US$18,000) and Finland (US$18,000).  I will send you more details about this in a couple of weeks.

Thank you for your prayers and support!

For the lost,
David & Jodi Pierce
