Lets say you are really beautiful. (When I see beautiful people I make myself feel better by saying &quot;Well, they must be stupid. They look nice but they have no brains.&quot;)<br>
But lets say you are not only beautiful but you're also very intelligent. In fact you are so smart you get a full scholarship to the best university in the country...

Preaching on Top of a Coffin in Jamaica
By David Pierce of No Longer Music

OCHO RIOS, JAMAICA (ANS) -- The cities of Jamaica can be dangerous places to be in especially if you are white. It was the first time I had experienced what appeared to be hatred for my race. I guess it was understandable as white people had abused the Jamaicans, using them as slaves in their past.

The Punk Fish
By David Pierce of No Longer Music

We asked The Devil (that was what the owner of the club called himself) if we could meet at his club and pray. He said that we could but he wasn’t able to come because he was sick (apparently even the Devil gets sick).

Abraham in Egypt (Part 1)
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
Abraham has just arrived in the land God promised him, but things aren’t going quite as he expected.  There are other people in the land, which complicates matters, since they don’t hand it over to him or recognize him as special in any way.  Then—to top it off—a severe famine strikes.  I think that it would probably be pretty easy to get frustrated at this point.  The “Promised Land” must not have seemed so great.  He has left his home and all his belongings; and now he has nothing and can’t even eat.  So he decides to go to Egypt, where there is food.

Abraham’s Call is Our Call - Genesis 12: 1-4
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
In this passage, the God of the universe appears to Abraham and tells him to go to a land he will give him.  In exchange, he promises Abraham blessing and descendants.  It sounds like a great promise, but there is one problem—Sarah is barren.  In that culture, not having kids meant you were nothing, because without children, you had no legacy to pass on or security as you aged.  Yet God picks these two—a couple without any potential—to create a nation.  Without any explanation, God chooses people without any possibilities and makes them an extravagant promise.

Genesis 1: The Character of God
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
There are a lot of debates and ideas about the first chapter of Genesis—about how it fits with science, about how long it took for God to create, about all sorts of things. And there are many ways we can reconcile science with Genesis, but we need to remember that the main point is to show that God created, and that he alone is the Creator. In our culture, we grow up being taught that God isn’t the Creator and that we are all products of chance. But that stands in dramatic contrast to Scripture, which tells us that God created.

On Malta
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
After Paul and the other people on the boat—276 in all—come ashore, either swimming or holding onto boards, they encounter some people there.  [The Greek word Luke uses literally means “barbarians,” but this is not necessarily a negative thing.  The Greeks and Romans called anyone “barbarians” who didn’t speak Latin or Greek, because they thought other languages sounded like the people were just saying, “Bar bar bar.”

On The Way to Rome is Through Malta
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
Acts 27:1-44 describes the first part of Paul’s journey to Rome. Luke was apparently there for this experience, because he tells the story in first person, with lots of detail. Luke tells us that it’s past the time of year when people could generally sail safely in the Mediterranean. And Paul tells Julius, the commander, that it’s a bad idea to sail, but Julius decides to listen to the captain of the ship instead of Paul, who is a rabbi not a sailor.”  MORE>>

Following Jesus Means a Lifetime of Goodbyes
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis

Paul is on his last missions trip, and he&rsquo;s visiting all the churches he has planted over the previous years.&nbsp; Wherever he goes, people he knows flock to him, because they love him so much.&nbsp; In fact, after meeting with the leaders from Ephesus, Luke tells us that saying goodbye is like a &ldquo;violent ripping.&rdquo;&nbsp; As hard as it is, Paul tears himself away from his friends and continues to head toward Jerusalem.
