This is the blog for the 2009 No Longer Music Evangelistic Church Planting Tour. No Longer Music uses a creative blend of life modern music, theater and other special effects to present a relevant, yet uncompromising Gospel message. Long-term ministries and church plant teams will be established to follow up and continue to reach the lost people in each location.

Today was our first full day off - I woke up at 2pm and that was about average for our whole group! Since we arrived here on Thursday night/Friday morning, we have not gone to sleep before 3am. It has been intense with all the usual battles and difficulties. But nothing of worth - especially something like pioneering a new church in a Middle Eastern country - ever comes without a fight.

Below are a couple of examples of what has occured over the last few days:

After the show on Sunday, Darek (from Poland) and Nate (from the USA) talked to four young guys who had responded to the Gospel. They asked them what they thought of the show and whether or not they believed in Jesus. They said they knew Jesus but didn't know what that meant in their lives.   Nate and Darek shared their personal testimonies and how they could have a personal, intimate relationship with Jesus. They said that they were looking forward to the attending the new church (first service will be on Saturday night) and learning more about following Jesus.

Two Concerts and Planting a Church Print E-mail

Our first few days here have been crazy, but great! Sorry for my lack of posts, the internet access has been limited. Below is a summary of our first few days:

We arrived at the venue for our first concert at around noon on Friday. We had been in the country for less than 24 hours and we had very little sleep, but we were ready. The name of the venue loosely translates to "Sex God". It was a large two story night club with a multi-level stage. As mentioned before, the event was a big "heavy metal" battle of the band competition featuring 12 bands and we were the judges and headline band.

Every one of the bands were non-Christians and each brought their own group of dedicated fans. One of the bands - which arrived with a big bus full of rowdy supporters - was from the southern part of the country and had ties to an Islamic terrorist organization. Very quickly, the club was filled with many wild young people. There was no doubt that we would be reaching "lost sheep" at this concert!

Sometime after midnight, after all the other bands had played, we began our concert. The crowd was glued to the action. As we began sharing the Gospel story, however, some people began to mock - which is very normal and a sign that we were reaching the right people!

Afterwards, David stepped into the crowd and began telling people how Christianity is not a fascist, religious system intended to control people (which is the common conception in Lebanon), but rather that it is about having a personal, loving relationship with God. He explained that Jesus cares about the hurt and injustice in the world and that he was willing to demonstrate this love by sacrificially dying on the cross for our sins.

Then, while surrounded by hundreds of young people, David invited those that wanted to respond to the message to gathering around and hold hands in a circle - not a normal request after a heavy metal concert. In spite of that, 60 people joined hands and prayed out loud and in front of everyone for Jesus to enter their lives! Praise God!

Well, after 30 hours of traveling we finally landed at 12:30am this morning. We're were an hour behind schedule, which fits the chaotic, unpredictable nature of the Arab world. The tour organizers came in 2 small cars and an old vw van to take us to the place we were staying. It took a while, but eventually we were able to fit all our luggage and the team of 14 (soon to be 16 when the drivers from New Zealand arrive) into the vehicles and leave.

Our drive to where we would spend the night led us through the center of the city. Neon lights, billboards, and other forms of advertising - often highly sexual in nature - were everywhere, reminding me of times square in New York or the strip in Las Vegas. The roads are chaotic with no apparent planning - similar to what I've seen in Sao Paulo, Brazil and the drivers are just as crazy too!

Revelation of God's Holiness Print E-mail

In his book, “The Knowledge of the Holy” A.W. Tozer says that what comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.

So what comes to mind when you think of God?

I believe that modern-day evangelical Christianity can have a tendency to trivialize God by making Him into our little buddy. Yes, it’s true, we have the amazing privilege of being a friend of God, but that is only by the undeserving gift of God’s grace.
