In 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 Paul says "When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power".

When people attempt to describe what God is like His goodness is one of the most frequently used adjectives. Recently it struck me that we often describe what God is like when we should rather be describing what God simply is. Within every human being lies a capacity for moments of goodness; but no one human being is good. God isn’t a being who produces goodness at its most consistent and highest quality but more succinctly God is good. It is a claim that no one and nothing else can make.

In his book, “The Knowledge of the Holy” A.W. Tozer says that what comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.

So what comes to mind when you think of God?

I believe that modern-day evangelical Christianity can have a tendency to trivialize God by making Him into our little buddy. Yes, it’s true, we have the amazing privilege of being a friend of God, but that is only by the undeserving gift of God’s grace.
