Introduction

For over 20 years, Steiger's ministry, "No Longer Music" (NLM) has reached the secular urban youth in Europe, North and South America, Australia, and Asia – The secularized global youth culture makes up the largest un-reached people group in the world, held together by common values, symbols, and legends. These are formed by the shallow entertainment industry, pop culture, and economic strategies that prey on a whole generation. This, combined with a break-down in family structure and values, sets the stage for anger, despair, hopelessness, and apathy. We share God’s broken heart for these young people. Through creative evangelistic church planting teams, we have seen this group profoundly impacted with the hope that is in Jesus.

No Longer MusicThrough art, music and other media, NLM brings the Gospel outside of the Church and into the streets, clubs and closed Muslim countries where conventional missionary teams cannot go, including Islamic countries, terrorist clubs, squatter villages, anarchy festivals, brothels, junkie joints, punk & goth music festivals, Satanist clubs and New Age gatherings. This means that NLM is often the first or only teams to bring Jesus to the young people with whom they come into contact.

NLM conducts annual tours throughout the world. The NLM “show” is a dramatic theatrical depiction of the story of Jesus, including a powerful crucifixion and resurrection scene, which is geared toward the secular youth. The show uses a creative blend of live modern music, stage drama and other special effects (i.e. video projections and fire) to present a relevant, yet clear gospel message.

No Longer MusicThe show is always translated/interpreted into the native language so that the message is clear. After each show, the gospel is shared from stage and an invitation to respond to the message is made. Afterwards, members of the band and local Christians talk to people who have responded and connect them to the local churches and follow up teams.

Over the years, many thousands of secular youth have come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior through the ministry of NLM. For example in 2007, we saw 200 Muslim youth publicly pray the sinner’s prayer of repentance, which is incredible if you consider the hostility toward Christianity in a nation that consists of 99% Muslim people and that we were in a part of Turkey where it is possible that the gospel had not been publicly proclaimed for over 1,500 years.

After the concerts, Steiger works with its local partners to set up follow-up events in order to connect those who respond to the message with local churches and ministries for ongoing discipleship.

For example in Poland, Steiger partners with the SLOT Art Festival, which began originally as an annual discipleship camp for those who had responded to No Longer Music concerts. It started in 1994 (with only 40 people in attendance) and has now grown to over 7000 today and has had a tremendous impact on the nation of Poland. SLOT has workshops and seminars for those who respond to the message and a network of churches throughout Poland to which to connect new believers.

No Longer MusicIn parts of the world where Christianity is prohibited by law, Steiger will establish “fan clubs” and “meet the band parties”, which serve as underground discipleship groups and churches.

When necessary, Steiger works with its local partners to facilitate the creation of new churches and local ministries to meet the needs of the new believers. It is common for No Longer Music to play in cities where there are very few or no churches at all and we aim to establish new churches capable of sending out their own church planting teams.

No Longer MusicWhen the need for a new church is identified, Steiger works alongside its local partners to bring in missionaries with the intent of starting a new church. These missionaries are trained in Steiger’s missionary school in New Zealand and work together with our local partners to establish a new church.
